Kikau Alvaro is originally from San Jose, CA. He graduated from San Jose State University with a B.A. in Theatre Arts, with an emphasis in Directing and is currently in the MFA class in Musical Theatre at San Diego State University. This past summer, he originated the role of Captain of the Guard in Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez’s latest musical Up Here at La Jolla Playhouse, directed by Alex Timbers and choreographed by Josh Bergasse. Recent acting credits include Bernardo in West Side Story (San Diego Musical Theatre), Cinderella’s Prince/Wolf in Into the Woods, Robert Martin in The Drowsy Chaperone, and Grantaire in Les Miserables (SDSU). For Theatreworks in Palo Alto, he has provided original choreography for Big River, [title of show] (West Coast Premiere), The Trouble With Doug (New Works Festival), and Fly By Night (World Premiere). He has been an adjudicator and workshop leader at the Junior Theatre Festival for iTheatrics for the last three years. He has also created original work for productions of Lysistrata Jones (PACE University), Urinetown (SJSU), and The Great American Trailer Park Musical (SDSU). This next summer he will be directing and choreographing Fiddler on the Roof at Cabrillo Stage in Aptos, where he has also helmed celebrated productions of Oklahoma! and Anything Goes. He also directographed Shrek and Guys and Dolls for the Diablo Theatre Company in Walnut Creek.  He and long-time collaborator Jacob Brent are co-creators and hosts of a Disney-themed podcast called Main Street and Beyond.  Follow him on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat @kikautown.
